No work yet to halt falling Metromover chunks of concrete

Work to stop concrete from falling off of Metromover supports has yet to start and won’t be completed until “sometime in the first quarter of 2020” – six months after county lawmakers approved the emergency repairs, according Buford Whitaker, assistant director of rail services for Miami-Dade Transportation and Public Works.
Corrosion of metal beams supporting the rail line’s Omni and Brickell extensions has caused “unpredictable” breakdowns in the surrounding concrete, he said, adding that his department expects to receive a notice to proceed “in the next couple weeks” for two contractors to begin work on the line “simultaneously,” each focusing on one extension.
