Bus maker’s bankruptcy costs county 6 buses, shortens warranties

Caught in a bind in which Miami-Dade County could lose all warranty protection for a fleet of 69 electric buses it can’t service itself, commissioners last week reluctantly OK’d a complex deal with the successor to its bankrupt bus supplier that will shorten the warranty and pay the vendor $5.15 million to seal the deal.
“An action was taken without coming to the county commission, and for $5 million, mind you, and now we’re backed into a corner having to accept the $5 million expenditure,” Commissioner René García complained.
