One hundred years ago, Henry Phipps, the son of anEnglish shoemaker who emigrated to the US and become one of the nation’s wealthiest men as a partner in Carnegie Steel Co. and an investor in real estate, established Bessemer Trust Co. to manage the substantial assets that would be shared by his offspring after his death. Bessemer evolved into one of the nation’s leading wealth-management firms, today with 12 offices around the US and two overseas.

Heading the Miami office as senior resident officer, succeeding George Wilcox, who now manages Bessemer’s operations in California, is Kerry Rapport.

Ms. Rapport, who worked initially as an attorney specializing in estate planning, spent more than 10 years here with Northern Trust Bank of Florida before moving to Bessemer five years ago as a principal in the Brickell Avenue office.

Ms. Rapport, who was promoted to her present role in August, was interviewed by Miami Today international editor Michael Hayes.
