Miami’s huge floral industry gets Belgian boost

The floral industry took a hit during Covid-2019, going from 7.3 billion stems delivered in 2019 to 6.9 billion. By air and water, 80% to 85% of flowers are delivered internationally to Miami, mainly from Latin America to Miami International Airport.

That trade pipeline was front and center as the Air Cargo Americas/Supply Chain Americas Show Conference held the first Fresh and Flowers Forum here this month at the largest air cargo exhibition in the Western Hemisphere. Representatives from Miami International Airport, one of the busiest airports in cargo imports from Latin America, and Brussels Airport, one of the busiest in cargo in Europe, presented information about the most efficient ways to transport fresh flowers.
