Miamians step up in economic and health crises

Real character shows itself during trying circumstances. It’s an age-old axiom, but Miami-Dade residents – no strangers to natural disasters – have again been reminded of its trueness in the wake of the most devastating global health crisis in a century. For those who rose to meet the community’s needs amid Covid-19, special recognition is warranted.
One person who deserves such distinction is Hialeah Gardens Mayor Yoiset De La Cruz, said Miami-Dade Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, who nominated him for the category of “Those Who Stepped Up: Individuals or organizations that found ways to lead or help as communities battle both health and economic challenges.”
