Matthew Love: Leads Nicklaus Children’s Health System through covid

Matthew A. Love was first appointed as chief financial officer of Nicklaus Children’s Health System in October 2018, and then interim president and CEO by the hospital’s board of directors in July 2019. In January 2020 he accepted the permanent role of president and CEO.

Mr. Love started his career in the early ’90s and has accomplished a 20-plus year-career with experience in financial and operational oversight in both adult and pediatric healthcare systems. Previous positions include senior vice president and chief financial officer at Mercy Health Regions in Cincinnati area, Kentucky; vice president strategy, business planning & pperations at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis; and vice president finance at University Hospitals in Cleveland, among others.

As the current president and CEO of Nicklaus Children’s Health System, Mr. Love oversees a 309-bed hospital with nearly 800 attending physicians and more than 390 pediatric subspecialists.

To this day, Mr. Love carries the lessons a mentor, Meri Armour, instilled in him, including that taking care of kids is the utmost privilege and priority.

Mr. Love wants to make access to health care easier, especially in underserved areas. “To me, that’s about being in the communities where the patients are, where the kids are to take care of them,” he said. “That may mean more locations, physicians, nurse practitioners, more nurses, and a whole bunch of things, but I think everybody, everybody deserves access to the best health care.”

Mr. Love spoke with Miami Today reporter Gabriela Henriquez Stoikow.
