Carlos Rosso: Focuses his development company on changing Midtown
After nearly 20 years at Related Group, Carlos Rosso decided in November 2020 to form Rosso Development, which focuses on high-end boutique development opportunities with expertise in every aspect of the industry, including construction, project financing, land acquisition, and sales and marketing.
Mr. Rosso’s current project envisions Midtown as a walkable hub of creativity, community, and modern living. With the rise of Midtown Park by Proper Residences and The Standard Residences Midtown Miami, he said, the intent is to give the buyers and residents everything that they need at their doorstep.
Offering over 120,000 square feet of retail and 60,000 square feet of office, Mr. Rosso plans to establish a padel club, brand-name gyms, healthcare operators, and even a Montessori elementary school.
“We are trying to imagine the life of 30-somethings and young families in Midtown who want to have everything at their doorstep and within walking distance,” he said.
Well respected by his peers, Mr. Rosso was a driving force behind The Related Group’s condominium operations since joining the company in the early 2000s. As the president of the condominium and international development divisions, he oversaw all facets of domestic condominium development as well as internationally in countries including Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Panama.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Rosso has developed well over 16,000 units and, in the process, has mastered diverse development disciplines, including construction, project financing, land acquisition, and sales and marketing.
Under his leadership, The Related Group successfully delivered iconic projects including the 1,600-unit Paraiso District in Miami, the Auberge Beach Residences and Spa in Fort Lauderdale, SLS Cancun & Residences in Mexico, and V:HOUSE in Brazil. The next batch of projects to complete includes Residences by ARMANI/CASA, designed by César Pelli, Hyde Beach House, and Park Grove by OMA/Rem Koolhaas.
Prior to his time at Related, he held a number of positions across global development firms, serving as vice president of real estate development for Investment Properties in Boston and spending 10 years as project director for Besix International, overseeing the development and construction of more than 10 million square feet of multi-family, hotel, and office buildings in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Throughout his career, he said, he knew Miami would be the place to run his own development firm.
“Miami is really the land of opportunities, particularly for Latin America. We don’t have to pretend we are from somewhere else,” he said. “I’m a strong believer in Miami, which keeps attracting people from all over the world to come and live and to work here and to progress. We are seeing it. We are very lucky to be living in a city that is expanding like Miami, and I think we have to continue promoting Miami to continue attracting more and more people who want to make this the greatest American city.”
Mr. Rosso spoke with Miami Today reporter Abraham Galvan.
