The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce is leading a business mission to Spain from Nov. 14-20 where business leaders and mission delegates will work together to connect with their Spanish counterparts.
The mission’s main hub will be in Madrid, but the chamber is working with participants who have existing connections or want to meet with specific companies to do site visits in cities like Seville, Zaragoza and Segovia.
About 20 participants are signed up to date, according to the senior vice president of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Liane Ventura. This includes members of the chamber and President of the Beacon Council Rodrick Miller.
“We have members from insurance companies, we have attorneys going … a couple of real estate folks are going…. We are working with the [Miami] Dolphins because this is a way for the NFL to show other cultures about American sports,” Ms. Ventura said.
The goal of America’s Linkage Mission to Spain is to create bilateral trade with Miami-Dade County’s largest foreign investor: Spain. Miami has a unique connection to Latin America and the Caribbean. Its relationship with Spain is built on shared cultural connections, complementary markets and mutual growth prospects.
“We have a lot of people that have shown interest in this mission because of the closeness for Spain [to] us in Miami … and, of course, the language… “Not only are we an international city but the majority here does speak some kind of Spanish,” she said.
The group will meet with the mayor of Madrid, the Spain Chamber of Commerce, tech companies and about 70 companies that have shown interest in returning to Miami next year for the Americas Food and Beverage Show, according to Ms. Ventura.
“The mission will focus on things that Spain has advanced, things that we have advanced,” she said. “We want to share things that we do and cook together.… Is there something we can learn there that we haven’t already implemented in Miami-Dade County and vice versa.”
The registration fee for chamber members is $750 and $950 for non-members.
Airfare is priced at $869 (plus taxes and fees) per person for an economy flight, $3,600 (plus taxes and fees) per person for economy premium, and the business price is listed on American Airlines the day the reservation is made.
The mission has a limited number of spots in order to fit participants in one bus. The chamber is looking for people who are going to do business with Spain or already have clients there. Those who want to join the group must fill out a pre-mission survey and email lventura@miamichamber.com.
