Rufus Drabble: Britain’s consul general aims to add FinTech, insurance link

In August 2022, Rufus Drabble assumed the responsibilities of His Majesty’s Consul General in Miami. He oversees the United Kingdom’s efforts to promote economic, commercial, political, security, and consular interests in Florida, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands and works to maintain and develop relationships in the region. 

Since arriving in Miami, Mr. Drabble has collaborated on several trade missions and a memorandum of understanding with the State of Florida and facilitated investment in priority UK sectors. 

Mr. Drabble previously served in the Netherlands as regional director for consular and crisis work across Europe and Central Asia. His role was focused on providing support to British travelers and residents in the region. Prior to this, he was deputy ambassador in Tunisia, where he was involved with recovery efforts in the aftermath of 2016 terrorist attacks there. 

He has also supported British nationals caught up in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the collapse of Thomas Cook Airlines, and provided consular help to British football supporters attending the Russia World Cup after many diplomatic staff were expelled following the Salisbury poisonings. Mr. Drabble also held diplomatic posts in Singapore, Afghanistan, Norway and Kenya. 

Throughout his career, he has worked in complex and sensitive situations and building relationships with individuals, organizations and governments. Mr. Drabble’s decades-long diplomatic career prepared him for his role as British Consul General in Miami, where he continues to facilitate a mutually beneficial partnership between the UK and the US in the region.

Mr. Drabble is accompanied by his spouse Stella and their dog Mango in Miami. In his spare time, he enjoy fishing and tennis. He is the father of two daughters, who are pursuing educations in the United Kingdom.
