Two made-for-TV movies target Miami-Dade film incentives

Two made-for-television movies being shot primarily in Miami-Dade are each in line for $50,000 county incentive packages geared to increase production of films and videos here.

The county commission’s Housing, Recreation, Culture and Community Development Committee advanced both incentive requests on Monday without comment. They now head to the full county commission for approval.

One of the productions, titled “Provocateur,” is being made by Brickell-based Provocateur Film LLC. Filming is to begin April 26 and conclude May 11 at locations throughout Miami-Dade, with 12 days of filming in the county. The application states that 7% of the filming will also be in Fort Lauderdale.

The film, to be distributed by Tim Johnson Production networks, “is the story of a physician who falls in love with a famous artist while trying to help a patient,” the county legislation states.
Total local expenditure on the production is projected at $515,078, with employment for 34 Miami-Dade residents during filming.

The other movie, “Written in the Stars,” projects its local spending at $530,000 with employment for 20 Miami-Dade residents. It also will be filmed at multiple Miami-Dade locations and film for 12 days in the county. It’s being made by Brand New Movies LLC of Palmetto Bay and is to be distributed by the Hallmark, Up TV network.

According to its incentive application to the county, “Written in the Stars” is a romantic comedy “about a ghostwriter that travels to South Florida with an action star to save her home publishing company from being sold. They need to secure movie rights to a popular written series… Their trip becomes an adventure when they find themselves on the trail of the legendary” final novel of the series.

Funding for the filming incentives for both movies is to come from the county’s general fund, contingent on an audit of the projects to ensure with compliance with requirements that include spending at least $500,00 in the county, filming 70% in Miami-Dade, with 70% of the hired personnel being from Miami-Dade and 70% of the vendors they use being county residents.
