Miami River’s fishermen prepare for lobster season
Written by Samantha Sheradsky on June 21, 2022
As lobster season nears, fishermen along the Miami River are preparing to manage the supply and price of lobsters. On Aug. 8, it will be legal for them to catch and harvest Florida lobsters.
Garcia’s Seafood Grille & Fish Market, at 398 NW N River Dr., an indoor/outdoor restaurant that has been operating since 1992, is preparing for the season as it has its own fishing boats that collect their own lobsters and stone crabs. With each boat, Garcia’s collects about 160,000 pounds of lobsters every year from its 2,000-plus lobster traps.
