African American museum in Virginia Key park may be near

Virginia Key may finally see a museum dedicated to African American culture rise on the historic, segregation-era beach park nearly 20 years after taxpayers voted to fund the project.
Today (4/13), Miami city commissioners are hearing a resolution to contract consultant services for the Historic Virginia Key Beach Trust Museum from Lord Cultural Resources. The museum’s mission is to highlight the rich cultural history, regional African American contributions, civic activism and environmental preservation of the beach park for the education of future generations.
