Miami Beach further tightens camping prohibition in public

Saying it “leads with compassion” and simultaneously maintains resident and visitor safety, Miami Beach has tightened its camping prohibition, unanimously passing an ordinance that amends the city’s laws to reflect a recent US Supreme Court ruling.
“This is an item that expands on our camping ordinance that prohibits camping or sleeping outdoors,” said Commissioner Alex Fernandez. “As the public might recall, the court has held that cities have wide latitude in fighting the negative impacts of homelessness, and that homeless people camping on the streets have towards their own safety, towards their own wellbeing.”
