Kenneth Jessell: FIU’s president aims to elevate standards and recognition
Dr. Kenneth A. Jessell is the sixth president of Florida International University (FIU.) With almost 40 years in education, first with 26 years at Florida Atlantic University and since 2009 at FIU, he will now lead the institution with students’ success at the forefront of his agenda.
As former chief financial officer for FIU he is well aware of the biggest funding needs. These include dealing with an affordability crisis and inflation affecting students and staff, the need for more money to invest in scholarships and financial aid, and more funds to cover operation costs amid rising costs.
Although there are many challenges ahead, he is committed to continue elevating the standard and recognition of FIU.
Dr. Jessell spoke with Miami Today reporter Gabriela Henriquez Stoikow.
