Anthony Rodriguez: New commissioner has aims for economy and business aid

Anthony Rodriguez is joining the Miami-Dade County Commission in November to represent District 10. Since 2018 he has represented District 118 in the Florida House of Representatives, where he sponsored and supported legislation ranging from local tax cuts to nonprofit and environmental funding, education, and healthcare.

As he prepares to join the county commission, he is working on getting historic background on some issues. “I’m a big believer that he who understands history will not repeat it,” he said.

“This is a whole different branch of government and I’ve got a lot to learn, but more important than just learning the way that local government operates, I’m really intrigued to learn the history of the district and the history of Miami-Dade County to a greater extent.”

As a small business owner, he is confident he will be able to manage his responsibilities with the private sector and his role as a public servant. “I’ve managed that at the state as well, so it comes down to a good staff.”

Mr. Rodriguez spoke with Miami Today reporter Gabriela Henriquez Stoikow in September.
