Hospitality workers’ soaring pay may have peaked
Written by Monica Correa on August 23, 2022
Miami joined a national trend of increases in pay for hospitality industry workers during spring due to the reopening of the economy that started last summer, but the rising pay rate might have peaked in June, according to experts.
From March to July, hourly pay for event servers went up 13% and for dishwashers 5% in the Miami area, said Daniel Altman, chief economist of staffing company Instawork. “We saw pretty strong demand [for labor] and increases in pay in the Miami area during the spring, but it seems like that demand may have peaked in June, so we might see a slight slide coming off the market in the next couple of months.”
