Expressways litigation cost toll payers $2 million in legal fees

Ongoing litigation between the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority and the state-created Greater Miami Expressway Agency has cost toll payers over $2 million since the litigation over the control of five toll roads in Miami-Dade County began in 2019.

The agency (GMX) was created in 2019 by the State Legislature to replace the authority (MDX) operating five toll roads in the county. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed it into law, and MDX immediately brought the case into court against the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
