County incentives fund mystery logistics adding 525 jobs

An unidentified transportation and logistics company was approved Jan. 22 to receive $7.5 million in incentives to create a $450 million headquarters in unincorporated Miami-Dade County and add 525 more workers over seven years.

The company already employs 1,100 in Miami-Dade, according to the application submitted by the Beacon Council for a company labeled “Project Hometown.”

The applicant would “consolidate its various national operations into a global headquarters in a sprawling 550,000-square-foot campus” yet to be selected, said the application that county commissioners approved without either discussion or identification of the recipient.

A memo from Mayor Daniella Levine Cava recommended approval of the funding to be disbursed over 10 years “contingent upon verification of job creation, capital investment, and tax payments,” estimated at $17.3 million for the property over 10 years.

The new jobs, at an annual average pay of $135,000 plus $10,000 benefits, would consolidate offices now spread across the nation, the memo said.

Incentives for Project Hometown come from the county’s Targeted Jobs Incentive Fund, geared to grow businesses and jobs.
