New Freebees looping around crowded downtown Miami
Miami’s Downtown Development Authority has launched a no-cost, eco-friendly transit service in partnership with Freebee to improve mobility and ease congestion in the central business district.
The service, which started Nov. 27, circles around some of downtown’s most visited destinations, including the Kaseya Center, Miami Worldcenter, the Miami-Dade Government Center, the Brightline MiamiCentral station and four Metromover stations.
Freebee’s shuttles with Miami DDA branding make continuous rounds, allowing passengers to hail a vehicle anywhere along the loop and use the Ride Freebee mobile app or hop on when the vehicle is stopped. Five passengers can fit in one vehicle.
The circulator loop operates Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The DDA partnered with Freebee to create the new circulator loop to provide an additional option for transportation downtown, helping to reduce traffic congestion and emissions. It allows residents, workers, and visitors to leave their cars at designated parking garages and enjoy easy access to the area’s top destinations.
City Commissioner and Miami DDA Board Chairman Manolo Reyes emphasized the necessity of improving public transit options as downtown continues expanding.
“With the significant growth in downtown Miami, it’s never been more important to provide new transit options that allow people to get around without a car,” Mr. Reyes said. “This new service connects many of downtown’s most visited destinations, making for easy commuting throughout the urban core.”
South Florida-based Freebee is a pioneer of 100% electric on-demand free public transportation. It operates in over 40 municipalities and campus locations in Florida and Virginia with a fleet of over 150 electric vehicles and a goal of promoting eco-friendly transit.
