Chris Evans: Seeking heat plan, wireless internet for Miami’s 151 parks

In July, the City of Miami named Chris Evans the new Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. A lifelong Floridian, Mr. Evans has 16 years in recreation and leisure management and has worked in municipalities across the state, including Pensacola, Tallahassee and Orlando.

During his previous role as assistant director of operations with the city’s parks department, Mr. Evans showcased his expertise in park management and understanding of the importance of green spaces in improving the quality of life for residents and visitors. He’s also made contributions as the Youth Sports Development Manager for the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department.

Currently living downtown, Mr. Evans says the best days at his job are when he gets to visit the city’s parks and engage with residents and staff. In his downtime, he enjoys being outdoors, for both leisure and sport.

In his new role, he hopes to increase access to recreational spaces and ensure their resiliency for future generations.

Mr. Evans spoke with Miami Today reporter Genevieve Bowen.

Welcome Mr Evans. I hope you can limit the number of events with music and fast food that disturb the peace in public places. We need quiet and nature. No beer festivals, no Ultra, no hippie fests on Virginia Key where nature should be protected.
