WEST COAST SEA LINK: A new cargo container shipping line will call on Port Miami on a route linking the West Coast of South America with the East Coast of the US. Zim Shipping Co.’s new Colibri Xpress Service will run a line linking Miami with San Antonio, Chile; Callao, Peru; Guayaquil, Ecuador; Cartagena, Colombia; Kingston, Jamaica; and Buenaventura, Colombia. “Our new ZIM Colibri Express line (ZCX) was designed recognizing Miami as a central port serving the Latin America trade,” said Nissim Yochai, the company’s US president and head of its Latin America Business Unit. “ZCX service is focusing on agility, efficiency, and reliability, with special emphasis on refrigerated cargo.” The company’s fleet of more than 80 vessels services over 180 ports.

WATER & SEWER BONUSES: Miami-Dade County is looking at developing a bonus system for developers who must extend water and sewer lines by two miles or more to reach proposed developments. The resolution by Raquel Regalado, which won a favorable recommendation in county committee, says that “while having development bear the costs of its impact on public services and facilities is appropriate and warranted, this board also wishes to incentivize new development and the installation of new water and sewer infrastructure that it entails by providing development bonuses within the Urban Development Boundary.” The legislation, due before the commission June 6, directs the mayor to file an amendment to the county’s Comprehensive Development Master plan to authorize the bonuses.

MARLINS ENTER HIALEAH: The Miami Marlins in partnership with the City of Hialeah have established the headquarters for the Marlins Youth Academy programming in Hialeah’s Babcock Park, at 651 E Fourth Ave. The addition expands the baseball team’s Marlins RBI initiative into Hialeah, the county’s second most populous city and seventh largest by population in Florida. The headquarters is the base for the team’s youth baseball and softball satellite programming in Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Youngsters around Hialeah can access developmental baseball and softball programs through the Marlins Youth Academy at Babcock Park.

GAS GOES DOWN: Average gasoline prices in Miami fell 6.9 cents per gallon in the past week to $3.47, according to GasBuddy, 23.3 cents lower than a month ago and $1.05 lower than a year ago.
