Frost Science Museum in line for high honors

The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is among 30 finalists for the 2023 National Medal for Museum and Library Service.

Awarded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the medal is the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries that demonstrate significant impact in their communities. Frost Science is one of three institutions in Florida to be selected as a finalist for this award.

“It is a remarkable recognition of our team’s efforts and commitment to serving our community that validates and inspires us,” said Douglas Roberts, Frost Science’s interim co-CEO. “We see science as a pathway to understand the wonder of our world and navigate towards a sustainable future.”

National Medal winners will be announced in late May. Representatives from winning institutions will be honored for their contributions during an in-person National Medals Ceremony this summer.

Located in Downtown Miami’s Maurice A. Ferré Park, Frost Science is a leading-edge science museum dedicated to sharing the power of science, sparking wonder and investigation, and fueling innovation for the future. Sitting on four acres, the 250,000-square-foot museum is divided into four distinct buildings: the Frost Planetarium, Aquarium, and the North and West Wings.

Visitors can explore the world of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in an experiential setting with interactive exhibitions and unique shows. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, and a member of the Association of Science and Technology Centers.

“So many museums and libraries across the country are committed to providing programs that are vital to the health and growth of engaged communities,” said IMLS Director Crosby Kemper. “These institutions represent the best of what museums and libraries do for their communities.”
