27% of Brightline riders come from new stations

After its December 2022 launch, Brightline’s Aventura station – along with the new Boca Raton station – contributed 27% of the private rail system’s total ridership numbers for January.

Combined, Boca Raton and the Aventura location at 19796 W Dixie Hwy. contributed 42,391 of the 157,137 total riders during the month and they are expected to be strong contributors to ridership growth throughout 2023, according to Brightline’s January ridership and revenue report.

“Results for the new Aventura and Boca Raton stations are encouraging and we believe the new stations will contribute substantial incremental annual passengers and revenue upon stabilization,” the report said.

In October 2022, the estimated $76.7 million county-funded station was officially completed via the installation of a 68-ton, 131-foot-long pedestrian skybridge stretched on two 41-foot-high towers. The company noted passengers would reach the bridge by elevators or escalators.

Built to offer express rail linking from Miami to Orlando, Brightline said then it would provide frequent express trips to and from Aventura to downtown Miami during the peak morning commute and evening rush hour. The schedule shows the trip is to take 17 minutes. The 3.5-acre station and its surface parking lot feature 240 parking spaces, a bus drop-off for Miami-Dade Transit riders and newly landscaped and hardscaped areas.

Brightline has also partnered with Uber to meet customer demand and enhance the company’s Brightline+ program, which is its door-to-door first- and last-mile mobility service through Brightline’s official app that allows customers to seamlessly book car connections.

The partnership will expand Brightline+’s fleet of mobility options and offer access to unlimited vehicles at an affordable rate. Guests are now able to add private or shared Uber rides when booking a train ticket.

“It is critical to our guest experience that access to our stations is convenient and seamless,” said Patrick Goddard, Brightline president. “This partnership meets our guests’ preferences and demands by unlocking an online fleet of vehicles to provide a door-to-door service when using Brightline.”

The partnership also represents the first time Uber has linked directly to an intercity higher-speed rail service in the United States.

“Through this partnership with Brightline, Uber continues our work in complementing mass transportation and expanding transportation access in South Florida,” said Dmitriy Vanchugov, head of partnerships for transit at Uber. “By making Uber easily available to Brightline users, we can together bridge first- and last-mile gaps and bring shared mobility options under one roof, making it more convenient and accessible for customers.”
