Rick Beasley: Links jobseekers with area’s employers at CareerSource
As executive director of CareerSource South Florida, Rick Beasley charts the course of the largest job placement agency in Florida, connecting people seeking work with employers across every conceivable business sector.
Now in his 16th year in the job, Mr. Beasley said the mission remains the same as it did the day he took over.
“It’s about building human capital, a supply chain that connects employers to people and people to businesses,” he said. “How we get there, the strategy of accomplishing that mission, may change. But the goal is helping people get employed and helping companies find talent.”
That isn’t to say the agency doesn’t adjust to current circumstances. To reflect needs during a global pandemic, he said, it became the only workforce board in the Southern US to provide grants to companies to keep people working.
“It’s our Layoff Aversion Fund,” he said. “The mission there is, if we don’t help employers stay afloat, we don’t have anywhere to put people. I can train people to be widget makers, but if my widget manufacturers are gone, I’ve wasted tax dollars.”
Mr. Beasley, also the chairman-elect of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, spoke by phone with reporter Jesse Scheckner.
