As a child, Sen. Anitere Flores learned the importance of pitching in to make the community better. That early imprint stayed with her because she has devoted her professional career to public service ever since graduating with a law degree from the University of Florida.

As chairman of the Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation, Senator Flores strives to garner one voice from the 24 elected officials who go to Tallahassee and advocate on behalf of their constituents.

For this legislative session, her main goal is to make higher education more affordable and accessible to average families. In addition, she said, the delegation will work on making property insurance more affordable for South Florida residents.

As for hobbies, it’s her boys. Along with her husband, Senator Flores spends every free minute planning their schedules, watching them play, grow and learn.

Miami Today reporter Susan Danseyar interviewed Senator Flores in her district office.
