Realtor Kevin Burns has been spending a lot of time trying to improve his city as mayor of North Miami

Since being elected mayor of North Miami two years ago, Kevin Burns has been spending 70 hours a week or more spearheading a range of projects, many of them unusually creative, aimed at bringing a renewed life to the city — boosting educational facilities, spurring construction of affordable housing, attracting new businesses and nurturing existing ones.
He detailed his vision and mission in an interview with Miami Today international editor Michael Hayes shortly after ground was broken on a major complex that will include four schools for local residents' children as well as other community facilities.
