Alberto Peraza has spent most of his life in South Florida and much of his life in banking. As a result of an impressive 33 years in the field, Mr. Peraza was named president and COO of Mercantil Commercebank in April.

He began his banking career at Southeast Bank, where he spent 12 years. Later, Mr. Peraza joined Mercantil Commercebank and has been part of its growth for 22 years.

Mercantil Commercebank, a nationally-chartered financial institution, has become one of the largest privately held banks in South Florida. The bank has grown its assets from $20 million in 1987 to over $6 billion today.

As part of Mr. Peraza’s goals as the new president and COO, he plans to keep the bank on track amid uncertain economic conditions and tough regulations.

Miami Today reporter Blanca Venegas interviewed Mr. Peraza in his office in Coral Gables. To read the full article and the rest of the Miami Today issue, subscribe to e-MIAMI TODAY, an exact replica of the printed edition.
