With international travel down, car rental firms given break

The county is negotiating with 15 car rental companies at Miami International Airport and commissioners just approved a six-year lease extension for financial relief due to the impact of Covid-19. Commissioner Keon Hardemon brought the proposal to a discussion last week, as the companies were negotiating under a five-year lease term.

“As I understand, about 40% of the revenue that comes in through the rental car companies is coming from international passengers,” Mr. Hardemon said. A December discussion resulted in a mandate that if the majority of the business came from international customers, airport tenants could get six-year relief term.
