Vital step could seal complex three-way development with county schools

After years of false starts, Miami commissioners are close to lengthening the life of the Omni Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), a move vital to a complex downtown development deal between the public school district, Arsht Center and developer Crescent Heights.
Miami Commissioner Ken Russell, the Omni CRA’s chair, told Miami Today he expects a decision “in the next couple weeks.” He and others on the board were scheduled to vote May 6 on whether to extend the Omni CRA’s sunset date through 2047. Time constraints that day, he said, forced a punt on the issue to later this month or early June.
