University of Miami, Miami Beach partner on shoreline protection

University of Miami researchers and Miami Beach officials are awaiting permits from the county and state to deploy three structures off Miami Beach as part of a study aimed at finding the best ways to protect shorelines from damaging wave energy.
The structures, Miami Today previously reported, will be concrete installations fitted with coral, as early research found that this combination of manmade and natural infrastructure was more effective at reducing wave energy than either system alone.
