Underline’s Brickell phase gets economic shot in the arm

Another piece has just fallen into place for the 10-mile-long Underline that is geared to transform county-owned land under the Metrorail from the Miami River to Dadeland: $5 million more for the first phase has been approved.
The Brickell Backyard, from Southwest Seventh Street to Southwest 13th Street got a $3.944 million infusion in Federal Highway Administration funds and $1.75 million in county road impact fees as a local match when county commissioners voted 12-0 this week to accept the federal money and match it.
The money will be used in the Brickell phase to construct a walkable, bikeable, transit-related development for connectivity. As part of that chunk of the Underline, a second designated pedestrian path will be added separated from the existing bicycle path, along with infrastructure additions. Construction is to start early in 2019 with completion that fall.
