Transit-on-demand plans motoring into smaller cities

Small cities with limited connections to Miami-Dade transit and few destinations within their borders will now have an easier time subsidizing services like Freebee, Uber, Lyft and Via with their cut of half-penny tax revenues.
County commissioners on March 2 removed almost all restrictions on how cities can operate on-call transportation services. Under the new rules, users can take up to five-mile trips anywhere within a designated service area, including across municipal boundaries.
