Task force battles 665,000 Miami-Dade drivers still using suspended licenses

About a third of Miami-Dade’s 2 million licensed motorists – some 665,000 residents – carry suspended licenses, mostly for unpaid fines and fees rather than dangerous driving. A county-created group tasked with determining how to lower that number held its first meeting Tuesday.

“We’re going to get this done,” said Judge Steve Leifman, who rules over traffic and criminal court cases. “People are going to see a significant difference in the next year.”
