Stories diverge in funding of park tied to Underline

During the City of Miami’s first budget hearings Sept. 12, dueling narratives were presented on whether Miami-Dade County would fund a pocket park in West Brickell that would tie into The Underline.
However, the county cannot fund the park nor use the federal grants for the park, said Irene Hegedus, chief of transportation enhancements for the county’s Department of Transportation and Public Works. She said those funds can be used strictly for transportation and the proposed park, to be located roughly at 1500 SW First Ave. behind Simpson Park, would be considered an amenity.
