State extension creates leeway as Miami-Dade crafts a budget

Miami-Dade commissioners are to meet today (9/28) in a second hearing to take a final vote on Mayor Carlos Giménez’s proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. If commissioners can’t agree on the budget today, they can thank Hurricane Irma for an extension to the deadline.
Gov. Rick Scott’s Sept. 4 Executive Order 17-235 gave state agencies permission to waive “all statutes and rules affecting budgeting to the extent necessary to provide budget authority for state agencies to cope with this emergency.” The Department of Revenue issued an order the same day waiving timing compliance requirements…To read the full story click here
