State bill would block communities from regulating vacation rentals

A running dispute between Tallahassee and governments throughout Florida over the regulation of vacation rental properties reignited Monday, when a Senate Republican who previously targeted the issue filed a new bill to preempt local oversight.

The bill (SB 522), filed by Sen. Manny Diaz Jr. of Hialeah Gardens, would largely give the state control of vacation rental regulations and prevent local restrictions, including inspection and licensing requirements.
