Springs sag on plans for safe footbridge to rail station

The Miami Springs-Okeechobee Metrorail Station Smart Trail Connector project is being shut down after the Transportation Planning Council amended the Transportation Improvement Program this month. A Transportation Planning Organization Board vote today (9/30) would remove it from the budget.
The Miami Springs City Council on Aug. 9 unanimously asked to kill the plan to provide access to the Okeechobee Metrorail Station to residents of Miami Springs with a pedestrian connector above the Florida East Coast Railway lines, the Miami River Canal, and Okeechobee Road, which are obstacles in between.
