SouthCom key to multi-billion Miami-Dade military impact

The Doral-based US Southern Command, commonly known as SouthCom, is not just a vital military asset but an important player in Miami-Dade’s economy. As home to Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine and Special Forces, SouthCom is a “unified combatant command” responsible for overseeing military and humanitarian operations in South America, Central America and the Caribbean.
SouthCom, the Homestead Air Reserve Base and 7th Coast Guard District Headquarters in Brickell combine as Department of Defense institutions to represent 4.4% of Miami-Dade’s economy, according to a study produced by Enterprise Florida in January.
