Single Miami-Dade vote creates county’s largest ‘city’

In anticipation of future federal coronavirus stimulus packages and to fairly distribute what’s already here, Miami-Dade lawmakers have decided to treat the county’s unincorporated areas collectively as if they were a city.
Through that lens, the unincorporated municipal service area (UMSA), home to roughly 43% of the county’s 2.7 million-plus residents, is both Florida’s largest city and among the biggest in the nation.
