Sidetracking cash for future Metrorail may roadblock Transitway buses

In a new effort to achieve a southern Metrorail expansion, Miami-Dade Commissioner Kionne McGhee is targeting its biggest obstacle: money. The county administration says his approach would imperil funding vital to a $368 million rapid bus project already approved for the route.
Commissioners last month gave a preliminary OK to an ordinance by Mr. McGhee that, if approved, would carve out funds raised in his district by the Miami-Dade Transportation Infrastructure Improvement District (TIID), which encompasses properties within a half-mile to a mile of six key commuting routes identified in the county Smart Plan.
