Rogue party boats disrupting Miami River

In addition to its varied missions – from creating a Riverwalk to controlling stormwater runoff to advocating for the marine industry – the Miami River Commission has undertaken a new charge: ridding the river of rogue party boats.

“Rather than buy or rent property and get zoning approvals, [these operators] acquire big boats and create floating nightclubs on the Miami River and Biscayne Bay,” said Horatio Stuart Aguirre, commission chair, at the group’s meeting Monday.

    There has definitely been an uptick in boat traffic on the Miami River in the last few years but I can’t say that I have ever seen a floating nightclub.
