Redevelopment agency breaks ground on first major housing affordability project

Written by on January 31, 2019

Miami-Dade Commission Chairwoman Audrey Edmonson and City of Miami Commission Chairman Ken Russell celebrated the groundbreaking Jan. 30 of the “16 Corner” Rehabilitation Project, the Omni Community Redevelopment Agency’s (CRA) first major housing affordability project, according to CRA Executive Director Jason Walker.

Through a joint effort, the CRA and Vagabond Group, founded by Avra Jain, will renovate 44 Overtown garden apartment units at 1540 NW First St. in phases as affordable units.

“With the ’16 Corner,’ we are addressing the need for affordable housing for the people of Overtown and preserving historical architecture at the same time,” Ms. Edmonson said. “Overtown is deserving of a renaissance, and projects such as ’16 Corner’ contribute to its rebirth as a thriving and working community.”
