Press US officials for Hurricane Irma repayments, county told

Miami-Dade needs to “get aggressive” in seeking federal and state compensation for Hurricane Irma damages, according to Commissioner Sally Heyman, who directed the county administration to “put the pressure on” the Federal Emergency management Agency (FEMA) after it failed to meet its 45-day repayment deadline.
Ms. Heyman’s assertion came last week during talks over a May 21 memo from Mayor Carlos Giménez showing that the county as of April 30 spent more than $275 million of $357 million it expects to spend on recovery projects related to the September 2017 storm.
