Ocean Drive may remain Ocean Walk on into future

Miami Beach officials will discuss this week the immediate future of infrastructure on the currently pedestrianized Ocean Drive, with staff recommending an interim option that maintains the road as a shared space for bikers, walkers, Freebee transportation and sidewalk cafes.
In May, according to a memo from City Manager Alina Hudak, the temporary closure of Ocean Drive to vehicular traffic was approved by the county with an expiration date of June 30. Final plans for the road, the memo said, are being considered by the city commission and explored as part of the Art Deco Cultural District preliminary concept plan by Zyscovich Architects, which is to be complete by December, with some ideas being discussed this week. Construction of the final road configuration will probably begin in 2023, the memo said, with the question of the moment being how the road will look in the meantime.
