New life for beleaguered South Miami Metrorail hub project

A project to build student housing, offices and stores at the South Miami Metrorail station is one vote from regaining viability after two decades in developmental and legal limbo.
A county committee last week gave a preliminary OK to leases with real estate firm Treo Group to develop two parts of a 6.2-acre site now filled mostly by a parking garage adjacent to the station.
