New expressways oversight team undermanned but powers ahead

The Greater Miami Expressway Agency (GMX) board, the toll road oversight group set to replace the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX), held its first meeting April 9, but fewer than half of its membership was there because the county has yet to appoint members.
Rather than announce that a lack of quorum prevented the meeting from taking place, the nine-seat group’s four current members – Stacy Miller, Florida’s top transportation official in Miami-Dade, and Gov. Ron DeSantis’ appointees, attorney Marili Cancio, banker Rodolfo “Rudy” Pages and lobbyist Fatima Perez – sat at a makeshift dais without room for the absent five and proceeded with a roughly 45-minute meeting.
