Miami city commissioners upset with unending delays on reconstruction of main thoroughfares West Flagler and Southwest First streets are going after the state.

The city commission unanimously approved a resolution instructing the city attorney “to take any and all actions necessary” regarding the delays of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) roadway projects on West Flagler Street and Southwest First Street.

“FDOT has been unresponsive,” said District 4 Commissioner Manolo Reyes, who sponsored the resolution. “We have to set a precedent to prevent this from happening again.”

Residents and small business owners on and near the West Flagler Street and Southwest First Street roadway projects have endured losses due to construction delays.

Additionally, the roadway projects have affected the quality of life of residents and put the identity of the neighborhood at risk, city officials said.

FDOT is also planning a roadway project for Southwest Eighth Street, alarming many residents and business owners.
