Miami expedites more than 50 types of permits

City of Miami officials, responding to complaints of permit requests taking months to be issued, will begin an expedited program for select permits on April 9.
Homeowners seeking select permits in the city will no longer need to run permit applications from department to department. Instead, city staff will process permit applications on their behalf in 30 days or less.
The expedited process is part of the city’s promise to innovate how it does business.
“We’re focused on unclogging our processes every day,” said City Manager Emilio González. “The new expedited permit process has us doing the legwork, and gives residents the ability to oversee the process without it being a burden.”
The process can be used for more than 50 types of permits, including remodeling, garage doors, fences, windows, awnings and many more. Requests that won’t be considered for expedited service include permits requiring tree removal, located in a historic or NCD3 District, or requiring waiver, warrant exception, variance or replat.
