Miami-Dade asks state to aid half-million suspended county drivers

Miami-Dade commissioners have asked lawmakers in Tallahassee to provide relief to more than half a million drivers in the county now carrying suspended licenses, mostly for unpaid fines and fees for non-dangerous-driving offenses.
In their latest move to get a handle on a growing problem that has led to roughly a third of the county’s 2 million motorists losing their driving privileges, commissioners last month approved a resolution by Eileen Higgins urging state lawmakers to pass one of two bills now circulating through the Florida Senate.
