Miami-Dade all in on having voters, not, state, decide on gambling

On Tuesday, as Gov. Ron DeSantis’ gambling-expanding deal with the Seminole Tribe of Florida advanced through the Florida Legislature, Miami-Dade commissioners implored state lawmakers to honor voters’ self-granted powers and uphold local governmental control norms.
Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution by René García urging elected officials in Tallahassee to “acknowledge the will of the voters to decide whether and how to allow gaming and gambling in Florida and to preserve the ability of local governments to regulate [it] within their respective jurisdictions.”
